Gym nerds, we have bad news. The stork stand is here to stay.
Additional WAG floor changes:
-Gymnasts cannot begin a routine with an immediate tumbling pass
-Gymnasts cannot perform back-to-back tumbling passes along the same diagonal
I WANT THE STUFF NELLIE KIM IS ON
HOLA MORE INJURIES
how do u encourage artistry? well obviously by setting rules so that all routines look the same down to the direction of tumbling… obviously.
Potential Comebacks 2014 - Viktoria Komova (Russia)
Viktoria Komova was last seen finishing eighth in the 2012 London Olympics balance beam final. She has been kept out of competition in 2013 firstly due to a back injury, then later due to viral meningitis. Despite an illustrious junior career, Komova has yet to live up to her full potential as a senior and fans of Viktoria hope to see her return early next year to chase the elusive all around gold.

During Prelims at the 2008 Olympics, a camera guy was standing too close to Nastia while she was warming up on the sidelines. She asked him if he could move over and when he didnt she shrugged her shoulders, mumbled somthing to herself, and shook her head while she continuned to warm up extrememly close to the camera. Then Alicia came over and pushed the camera back and told him he might want to step back.

Jaime's Gym Aristocracy Meme: Olga Korbut 6/∞
Her groundbreaking performances transformed the image of gymnastics all over the world, suddenly making it one of the prime attractions of the Olympics and the preferred sport of choice for young girls almost everywhere. In Britain, 500,000 people did gymnastics in 1972; within two years, three million British girls were members of gym clubs.
Korbut broke sporting boundaries by doing something considered unfeasible, almost freakish. But what intensified her popularity was that, in another sense, she subverted systems by being utterly normal. Her displays of emotion during competition – her girlish smiles after successful performances, her tears of distress after botched ones, and her warm, natural connection with crowds – exploded the myth fostered by Cold War propaganda that Soviets were a callous, mechanical bunch. The Red Army may have suppressed Alexander Dubcek’s attempt to introduce “socialism with a human face” to Czechoslovakia in 1968 but here a tiny pig-tailed Soviet athlete showed people behind the Iron Curtain could have adorable faces. -Paul Doyle [x]
That quote is so amazing ♥
Here it is folks, watch the first pass carefully. Groshkova is one of only two gymnasts (so I believe) to compete a double full in. She is amazing.
It breaks my heart that she never represented USSR at Worlds or the Olympics, because of the team’s outrageous fucking depth in the 80s/early 90s. This girl could have rewritten some serious history of gymnastics script, but she never even got the chance. Despite being a total genius. I love her.
My new favourite Soviet gymnast is Tatiana Groshkova. This beam routine, well - no, I can’t, JUST WATCH IT. Difficult, elegant, exciting, and beautiful.
She is also one of only two gymnastics ever to perform a double full in on floor. A video of which I will now post.

Jane, an ex-olympic-level gymnast, has a shit lifeTM. When she’s not at her repetitive, boring-ass job she’s desperately trying to have a baby with her douchebag husband (possibly not the greatest of ideas, that).
This all changes when she’s invited to become part of an aerial silks stage show. Cue life-affirming purpose and falling headlong into a lesbian relationship with her stage-mate (for real, I do not blame her).
Did I mention the silks? Because those parts are SUPER awesome.
Also, I wanted to reach in and marry Serena (the love interest) myself. She’s a knife-obsessed, closeted lesbian of Korean descent who was adopted and raised by a Jewish family. If that isn’t a fuck you to character expectations, I don’t know what is.
Agh, PARTNER BETRAYAL. Though the husband’s a giant, walking assmunch, so you end up not feeling all that sorry for him.
Lives hopefully ever after. The movie ends with the Jane leaving her husband, engaging in the most acrobatic YAY I’VE FOUND MYSELF scene I’ve ever watched and tailing Serena to Vegas. We don’t actually see them reunited but fuck you, they totally get back together and raise adoptive babies while learning to tightrope walk or something, ‘kay? ‘KAY.
Pavlova doing her thing on beam. A couple of wobbles, but still amazing as always. So flag she still does her twisting and handstand elements.
its amazing how her beam is basically the same since 2002
